The stars that shine

Ah…. Satan the Devil, ruler of the world and the one who causes the stars to shine. Sounds like blasphemy to me, but according to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, it’s all scripturally sound and, for lack of a better term, kosher, to teach such things. In an article Who Sent the “Star”? from the April 1st, 2012 edition of The Watchtower magazine, the following is quoted of the star of Bethlehem, pursued by three Magi in order to find where the prophesied Messiah was located:

Mormon Problems with other Sheep

The Book of Mormon (BOM) claims to be an account of a group of Jews who left Jerusalem around 600 BC and made their way to the Americas. They lived there, separated from the Israelites in the Middle East and grew into a large population before they finally died out around 400 AD. During this time, the BOM claims that the people had prophets to whom God revealed all sorts of things about the future Messiah. It further claims that at some point soon after Jesus’ resurrection, He also appeared to these people for a short period of time and set up a Church complete with apostles, etc.

There’s No Cause for Concern

Recently in one of our Facebook groups, the question was asked: “Why was Jesus [sic] name Jesus rather than Emmanuel [sic]?”. This person also wondered, that because Jesus wasn’t actually named Immanuel, maybe this is one of the reasons why the Jews, by and large, rejected Him as the messiah. The passage being referred to is Isaiah 7:14.

What Did Paul Teach about the Soul?

[ Author: Rich Christian ]

Jehovah’s Witnesses and other sects who teach soul sleep have to ignore several passages of scripture in order to maintain their position. Understandably, there are passages that seem to support this doctrine–Ecclesiastes 9:5 is often brought up in support of soul sleep–but I won’t be addressing them in this article, for the sake of brevity.

Timothy McGrew Lecture: Who Wrote the Gospels?

I’ve often seen people challenge the authorship of the gospels and I found a superb lecture on the traditional view of this. This is lecture one in a series done by Dr. Timothy McGrew, who is a philosophy teacher at Western Michigan University. In it, he gives various angles on why the the gospels really aren’t from anonymous sources as charged, he cites internal and external evidence, which includes “hostile” witnesses, writings from early Christians etc. On the Apologetics 3:15 website, you can find more information on this. Enjoy!
